taj weekes & adowa Reggae / Roots Music / Dub Rastaman. Businessman. Preacher man. Island man. Poetry man. Reggae recording artist Taj Weekes plays many roles, but chief among them is the role of storyteller. The singer/songwriter tells tales of poverty, oppression, hopelessness and rejection, counterweighing them each with a message of Rastafari faith and spirituality. On his aptly-titled debut CD, Hope and Doubt, Taj sings about life..s tug of war the way only a man of experience can. Born the youngest of ten children, Taj grew up on the Caribbean island of St Lucia. He became aware of the disparity between the well-heeled tourists and the striving locals early on. On tour next: Mar 31, 2007 2:00pm Medgar Evers College Brooklyn, NY Apr 28, 2007 8:00pm Club Helsinki Great Barrington, MA May 25, 2007 TBA Dynamic Grooves Festival TBA, NY May 27, 2007 TBA Dynamic Grooves Festival TBA, NY LISTEN TO THEIR TUNES go to their website |

Roots Reggae is big in Indonesia and it is as common to see an outstanding reggae performance in a dark night spot as in the club of a 4 stars hotel. Bandung is the reggae capital of Indonesia and hundreds of their bands play countrywide, too few internationally. Steve & the Coconut Trees is a rising reggae band, starting to pull out serious recordings. They are based in Jakarta and as most indonesian reggae bands, they are hard to find in stores or online, and when you're not in Indonesia, there's no way to get hold of their tunes. Below you can find the 3 only tunes i could find (from www.deviantart.com). They're a little cheesy, but i heard of my rat about much more bouncing tunes and mad concerts... Welcome to my paradise Aku kembali Soalnia Merdeka Please, if you know more about this band and other Indonesian Reggae news, let us know or register and post them. Man.... I miss Dangdut... |
