SIERRA NEVADA WORLD MUSIC AND REGGAE FESTIVAL |
|
|
|
|
Thursday, 10 May 2007 |
The 2007 Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (SNWMF) is pleased to welcome Bunny Wailer to this year's lineup. Jah B will be making his first-ever appearance at the festival. Recently added to the lineup are legends Bob Andy and Sugar Minott. SNWMF takes place June 22,23 & 24, 2007 at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are in Boonville, just 30 minutes west of Ukiah in the scenic Anderson Valley.
With its origins in the Sierra Nevada mountains, this world-class festival, now in its 14th year features three days of diverse music performed on two stages, convenient camping, an eclectic group of ethnic food and cultural craft vendors, and exotic fire dance troupes. There are several family friendly amenities at SNWMF, from fun and educational children's activities to a designated family camping area. Children 12 and under are admitted for free to the event with a paid adult.
Let us gather once again at the Summer Solstice to dance, drum and chant for peace. In these troubled times, we can only follow our hearts. And our hearts tell us that the people need to come together, now more than ever. The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is dedicated to nurturing a world family, peacefully united in celebration of the universal spirit of music. Come celebrate with us! This yearly celebration to commemorate the summer solstice creates a veritable global village where people come to a beautiful setting to enjoy a diverse lineup of new and legendary artists from around the world.
In addition to presenting a wide array of World music's most popular acts, SNWMF has a tradition of presenting contemporary, conscious Reggae, coupled with an emphasis on vintage Reggae and its preservation. The first two days conclude with an authentic late night Jamaican-style dancehall session where artists from the festival lineup perform with the DJ's.
As festival organizer and founder Warren Smith notes, "There are so many great artists, bands and DJ's in World and Reggae and this provides us a wonderful foundation to work with as we create the lineup each year. Our intention is to invite performers and recording artists from both the past and present-some of whom make their first-ever Western U.S. appearances here."
The schedule and exact order and appearance of performers will be announced shortly. Please refer to the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival website: www.snwmf.com or myspace.com/snwmf for frequent updates.

A Note from the Festival Organizers:
Over the past thirteen years we have endeavored to build a community where Conscious music, Roots music, and World music are embraced. Where bringing diverse people from many lands together in celebration yields more than just the sum of each individual present, but something much grander. At SNWMF people experience a unique sense of unity and belonging, a semi-utopian moment in time where love, generosity, joy and innocence can be reclaimed. We believe that music has the power to move mountains and change paradigms, and the phenomenal artists who have graced SNWMF stages over the past decade+ have imparted an overwhelmingly positive force.
Let us gather once again at the Summer Solstice to dance, drum and chant for peace. In these troubled times, we can only follow our hearts. And our hearts tell us that the people need to come together, now more than ever.
