This website is dedicated to the memory of Bob Marley

Representing a new generation of reggae that keeps in the tradition of crooners who came before him, those who inspire him, including the likes of Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, and Toots Hibbert to name a few Reggae artiste Brahyhan Art, born Bryan Grant in St. Ann, Jamaica, recalls playing the guitar before the tender age of eight. His keen interest in music was inspired by his eldest brother, a recording artist known as Ray Grant. But it was his mother who taught him his first three primary chords on which he’d improvise for the next couple of years.

Stevie Culture has been a musician for his entire life. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Rastafarian parents. His Father was a musician who played the guitar and sang.

As the lead singer for “The S.A.N.E. Band” (Sounds Against Negative Expression—the top band in Jamaica during the 1990s), Stevie Culture performed as an opening act for many Reggae artists such as Shaggy, Anthony B, Sizzla, Third World, UB40, Steel Pulse, Culture, Burning Spear, The Wailers and Alton Ellis.  More impressively, Stevie has performed on stage as a backing vocalist for many great artists like Dennis Brown, Tony Rebel, Everton Blender, Capleton and the late, great Garnet Silk.

Stevie Culture is an artist that has always worked toward keeping consciousness in Reggae music.  He has also fought the same fight that legends such as Bob Marley and Peter Tosh have fought throughout the years to keep the message of Reggae music important and valid.

“This song is about the upliftment of Reggae music.  Over the years, Reggae has become mostly slack lyrics about sex and violence.  So I’ve written this song to inspire others to think consciously when writing songs.  Remember, the children are listening”  Stevie Culture

Is Beverly Genuinely against dancehall music or is she only trying to get a bigger fan base?

beverly_knight_sexy_langerie_photos.jpgBy Kon-Vick
OutAroad.com Writer

UK’s R&B star Beverly Knight has become one of the first entertainers of Jamaican parenting to joined hands with gay human rights group OutRage on their ‘Stop Muder Music’ campaign against Dancehall artists Beenie Man and Buju Banton.

According to BBC, the singer said, "It breaks my heart that people as talented as Buju Banton and Beenie Man feel the need to appeal to the lowest common denominator for hatred for gays.

However, some believed that Beverly Knight is saying all these nice things about gay people in order to get the gays to like her as she's scared that they might not support her music due to the fact that her parents are Jamaican.

It is also reported that Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Elephant Man and Bounty Killer are a few of the seven artists that are being investigated by The Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution for violent homophobic lyrics. Incitement to murder is a criminal offence in Britain.

TIKEN JAH FAKOLY

Greetings Everyone! We are finally home and to tell you the truth some of the band members actually got homesick this year. (smile)

The "Emerald Lounge" in Ashville NC,  the "Saint" in Asbury Park N J, the "Bearsville Theater" In Woodstock NY, "Oceanstate Reggaefest" in RI,  and "Schooner's Landing" way up in Damarissotta ME were some of our most memorable and enjoyable gigs this time around. However it was the string of dates throughout Belgium, Holland and Germany that took the prize this year. If you are a musician and have never done Europe, you haven't done anything yet! The crowds are massive, the stages huge, and the sound systems wicked!!

Everyone came out to hear this little unknown band from the Virgin Islands and we did not disappoint! I think our professionalism shone right through. The radio interviews were relaxed and unrushed which give us a chance to deliver our special brand of love throughout their listening audiences. We also had the opportunity to do the biggest and longest running festival in Belgium. It's called the Antillianse Festen. I've never seen anything like it. We played the small stage and I was a little un-nerved by that but when I saw what was to be our crowd I was mesmerized! The entire festival had about 80,000 jammed into an open farm lot that housed about five or six stages. In short it was massive. Next day we attended Reggae Sundance in support of our own Midnite band from St. Croix who represented in grand style also. There too the crowds were massive. Although they came on as the secound band to represent that day they had about 10,000 strong supporting. Later the festival would swell to about 60,000 and all this is in front of one stage. Just imagine the sound guys!

REGGAE AFRICAIN BY TIKEN JAH FAKOLY:
Active Image

AFRICAN REGGAE
On its new Reggae album, Tiken Jah Fakoly is this African whose multiple identity is declined as of the 1st song ("dioula, akan, sénoufo, Brazilian, black-American...") as for better reaffirming of it the cultural richness, disseminated everywhere in the world, but also the unity. This African saw an extreme experiment today, that to see itself each day more put a little at the variation, outdistanced in the insane race of the globalisation. It is the experiment which Tiken makes us share on this disc coming up and committed. For Reggae album "the African", produced between Bamako, Paris and London. Tiken Jah Fakoly was surrounded of the Reggae producers Kevin Bacon and Jonathan Quarmby (having worked with Ziggy Marley, Finley Quaye, Del Amitri...). This Reggae album, of which a part of the titles is written by Magyd Cherfi (Zebda), includes the featurings of the Akon Senegalese, Soprano and of the Ivory Coast Beta Simon.

Snypa King, Lady Shelly & Jah Cruise got together on Sunday May 20th to shoot a medley video for the woodwork riddim. If you are not familiar with this riddim it was released in mid February but is just now picking up steam on radio stations in Jamaica. Of all the tracks on the riddim, more attention has been given to Lady Shelly’s “kum out” as it focuses on the issue of domestic abuse. For her portion of the video, the “karamanti” created a scene in an abuse center filled with female victims and a male aggressor. Even though, the scene was short the message was delivered with clear precession.

Jahranimo's first major recognition came in 1988 at a sound system showdown between Ticka Music and Pieces Sound. Singing under the stage name ..Apache.., he won the audience's love and was named Best Entertainer by the promoter. After meeting the late Chino Man in Savanna-La-Mar, Jahranimo was introduced to Leng, Specialist, and Banky (former managers of Shaba Ranks). These new connections led to performances in some of the biggest shows in Jamaica such as Sting, Hot Shot, and Border Clash. In 1991, ready to begin a new life in Canada, Jahranimo performed an emotional farewell show while sharing the stage with Buju Banton and
other artists from his homeland.

While living in Canada and taking a break from music, Jahranimo began to realize his true identity as a..Rastaman... Giving all praise to the Most High, life ..Must Get Betta.....

MIKEY DREAD - 'LIFE IS A STAGE'
(Dread at the Controls)

For a man who has made reggae his business for over thirty years, Mikey Dread shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, the opposite would be more accurate with the arrival of his twenty-second, official 'Dread at the Controls' release - 'Life is a Stage'.

Recorded at Anchor Studio, the "Rolls Royce of Studios" in Jamaica and mixed at Bob Marley's famous Tuff Gong studio, 'Life is a Stage' absorbs all of the musicianship and energy from those arenas and moulds them into what can be best described as a connoisseur's release.

Cheb i Sabbah has made a career out of blending music from all over the world into kaleidoscopic, dancefloor mixes. His first three albums for Six Degrees Records, Shri Durga, MahaMaya - Shri Durga Remixed and Krishna Lila, are cult classics in which India's time-honored traditions merge with the universe of possibilities afforded by contemporary recording technology. His fourth release was a continuous DJ mix titled As Far As, in which the sounds of Asia, Arabia and Africa?his main sources of inspiration?are represented as if the listener were attending one of his renowned live sets. From here, he turned his attention to North Africa with his latest discs La Kahena and La Ghriba - La Kahena Remixed. He's currently working on a brand new album and you can look forward to a sneak preview of it at this edition of Worldly.

His high-energy, rhythm-charged performance will find him joined by virtuoso percussionist and electronica luminary Karsh Kale, as well as drummer Ramjac. "One of my father's goals was to release an album independently. His plan was to do that after the release of his final album on a major label, unfortunately, he never had the chance," shared Ziggy. "This album and the way it is being sold is important to me in honoring my father's spirit."
