Verse iTal new music video for his single "Blueprint" featuring fellow Trinidad rapper Smurf:
Verse was fortunate to grow up in a family with very strong values, where discipline and diligence were not only encouraged but expected. His exposure to many different musical genres from international superstars like Michael Jackson to patriarchs of his country's lyrically potent art form calypso, allows him the creative versatility in his compositions, as his stage name denotes.
Alum of Temple University, Verse spent his time in Philadelphia not only successfully pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, but in immersing himself in the rap culture as part of a freestyle-performing group called the Kallai Corporation, impressing colleagues with his writing ability. Thus the proverbial seed was sown, and Verse knew at that point that his life story would be told in music
Verse returned home in 2005 a changed man; he had found complete sanctuary in the Rastafarian faith and gained an enlightened vision on the purpose and direction of his music. His compositions vary greatly in topic, from scathing attacks on the selfish motives of prominent leaders to the undying love for his mother. Verse iTal is able to deliver it all with an honesty that stirs a myriad of emotions in his audiences. His style can best be described as a fusion of conscious roots reggae & hip-hop mixed with a mysterious element that allows him to escape being completely defined or categorized.
The success of Love Cry has opened many opportunities for Verse including performing in concert with the great Beres Hammond and one his greatest reggae influences, the Grammy-nominated veteran reggae star Buju Banton. Verse has also shared the stage with celebrities such as Levi Mayers, Ziggy Rankin & Jah Melody. His 2008 smash video release of Jah Puzzle & Nyquil saw enviable success at the number two position of Synergy TV's Video Countdown. Verse's fans were also thrilled when he took to the road as part of the 94.1 Guinness Tour. In 2009, Verse spent several months developing his craft, working with local acts and live bands and honing his guitar skills. At present Verse is working on a new collection of tracks, for his second album due for release in March 2011. Can't wait till then... you can sample tracks off the upcoming album on the "Music" page, including the hit single "Selassie I" and "Blueprint" (official song of a similarly named 94.1 FM programme).
