So now if you want to print an image of Bob Marley on a T-shirt or a bag, you'll have to pay the children of the Legend. Bob Marley probably curses from up in heavens that his image becomes business opportunity, but it doesn't seem to matter to the Marley's, money is money, who cares about what He would have liked, right? So Bob Marley will now finance the bling-bling of the Marley apples... who fell well far of the tree. Mabye Mahatma Gandhi family should also cash on the icon's image... since it seems that it's becoming a normal thing in this world to feed of the legendary dead. |
Many have criticized the way Rita Marley cashed on the Late legend's legacy, but now there's worse, and it seems to come from the whole Marley clan.
The family of reggae great BOB MARLEY has agreed a deal with a private equity group in a bid to capitalise on the late singer's image.
Marley's relatives have teamed up with with Hilco Consumer Capital to secure the rights to the icon's dreadlocked visage and other trademarks for retail products.
Hilco plans to use a new company, House of Marley, to licence the star's image and has so far invested $20 million (£13.5 million) for half of the business, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The company will license products including shoes, food, luggage and musical instruments, amongst others.
Marley died of cancer in 1981, at the age of 36.
