Three of the world’s top reggae/dancehall singers have renounced homophobia and condemned violence against lesbians and gay men.
Beenie Man, Sizzla and Capleton had previously released anti-gay hate songs, including incitements to murder lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
They have now signed up to the Reggae Compassionate Act in a deal brokered with top reggae promoters and Stop Murder Music activists.
The agreement follows the three-year-long Stop Murder Music campaign, which resulted in the cancellation of hundreds of the singers’ concerts and sponsorship deals, causing them income losses estimated in excess of five million dollars.
“The Reggae Compassionate Act is a big breakthrough,” said Peter Tatchell, of the British gay human rights group OutRage!.
Mr Tatchell is coordinator of the worldwide Stop Murder Music campaign. He helped negotiate the deal with the three singers.
“The singers’ rejection of homophobia and sexism is an important milestone. We rejoice at their new commitment to music without prejudice,” said Mr Tatchell.

"People criticise what they don't know or understand and develop preconceptions, and so given that, I have gone against what they've developed as a stereotype," said Redwood, who is in Mexico for the Miss Universe final on May 28 in Mexico City.
Rastafarians -- who worship the late Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie as a God they call "Jah" -- stress peace, love, spiritual goals and natural living, Redwood said, denying a clash between Rasta culture and being a beauty queen.
"The Rastafarian culture and beauty pageants have a great deal in common because they both promote decorum in the attitude of the female and the female as a role model in society. You're looking at beauty of the mind, body and soul," she said.
Rather than discrimination, the main reason for a dearth of Rasta beauty queens on the international circuit is the movement's rejection of the more corrupt or gaudy facets of modern society, which they call "Babylon," Redwood said.
Made famous around the world by Bob Marley's reggae songs, the Rasta culture emphasizes human dignity and self-respect.
"Rastafarians have been a very conservative group so modelling and pageants have been considered Babylonian to some extent," Redwood said.

Lawd have mercy...... The Broadcasting Commision of Jamaica is instilling its rules and regulations..... dem a gwann wicked see yah now dem ban Red Rad Song because of its lyrical contect by using the word GLAMITY.....
THIS IS WHAT one876entertainment.com has to say about this
Red Rat banned? Dancehall fans have been stunned by the latest move by the Broadcasting Commission to ban Red Rat's popular It Good song because of the use of the word 'glamity' in one of the verses.
"I just got word that it was banned from Hitz and FAME because they said that I used the word 'glamity'. I can't believe it all now, they ban my song because of that word and yet you have man ah kill people inna song, mi nah call no name, and yet he is not banned," an incensed Red Rat told One876Entertainment.com.
"I won't accept it, my management is writing a letter to the Broadcasting Commission right now, I don't understand this at all, 'glamity' is not even in the dictionary, it is not a swear word, it is a Jamaican slang term, and my song is not even derogatory, it is bigging up the girls dem," Red Rat, who buried his father a few weeks ago, said.
Red Rat is known for the dancehall girls, Shelly Ann and Charlene Have Pretty Car Eye.

The song's refrain: "It's not about class, color or races, let's get together and see different places" is propelled by images of a mohawk haired-woman, an Orthodox Jewish man, along with African, and Asian people whose singing faces are imposed and depicted Gentleman's dancing torso.
Los Angeles-based players Adam Arredondo, Spacey, Dr. Scorp (pictured on drums), Cedric (R) (pictured here with Ras Kassa (L) and Shawn (on bass) were hired to act as the musicians performing the Firehouse crew-crafted rhythm track. Another of the video's scenes depicted here, features Gentleman singing with the band in front of a multi-flag backdrop.

On his aptly-titled debut CD, Hope and Doubt, Taj sings about life..s tug of war the way only a man of experience can. Born the youngest of ten children, Taj grew up on the Caribbean island of St Lucia. He became aware of the disparity between the well-heeled tourists and the striving locals early on.

Bandung is the reggae capital of Indonesia and hundreds of their bands play countrywide, too few internationally.
Steve & the Coconut Trees is a rising reggae band, starting to pull out serious recordings. They are based in Jakarta and as most indonesian reggae bands, they are hard to find in stores or online, and when you're not in Indonesia, there's no way to get hold of their tunes. Below you can find the 3 only tunes i could find (from www.deviantart.com). They're a little cheesy, but i heard of my rat about much more bouncing tunes and mad concerts...
Please, if you know more about this band and other Indonesian Reggae news, let us know or register and post them.
Man.... I miss Dangdut...

Representing the small but growing dub scene in Thailand, the Bangkok Massive Soundsystem was founded by AGENT SMIFF (www.agentsmiff.com) and DON P (a.k.a. The Oracle) in 2002. Since AGENT SMIFF's move to Spain in 2005, there have been many changes with the Massive. Aside from Don P, the current line up includes: DJ TUM, and MCs JAGO, JOHN-Z, the Singjay Picolo Pete, Bushman Dan, and Junior Masters.
The ceremony, which recognizes the best in reggae and world beat music, will be giving the special 'Producer's "Respect" Award' to Jamaican musical stars Half Pint, Gregory Issacs as well as American hip-hop legend Doug E. Fresh.
Half Pint's work with celebrated producer King Jammy helped to usher a lighter, more relaxed approach to dancehall music, with content that was both romantic and socially conscious. Inarguably, his most famous track would be the international hit 'Greetings', which eventually set the tone for the 'ragga' style that was, at that time, taking over Jamaican music.
